Overview

Yin Yoga supports and strengthens the Yin aspects of the body (connective tissue, ligaments, and tendons). It enhances and aligns the more subtle aspects of the body’s energy as it relates to Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Meridian system.

The practice of Yin Yoga also “exercises” our mindful awareness muscle, increasing our capacity to be calm and present in the moment.

More about Alice

Alice Riccardi has been a student of yoga for 24 years and a yoga teacher for 22. She is a 500 hour certified Baptiste Power Yoga teacher and an established E-RYT through Yoga Alliance. Alice came to the practice of yoga when she was 42, one year after her daughter Sophia was born. Before becoming a yoga teacher, Alice was a modern dancer, both in NYC and Boston. While dancing, Alice was introduced to the Alexander Technique, an educational method that helps people develop a better co-ordination of the musculoskeletal system which can ease chronic pain and body discomforts that develop from inefficient movement patterns. When she stopped dancing, Alice went to school to become an Alexander Teacher and developed her home practice for 3 years before her daughter Sophia was born in 1999.

In 2001, Alice took her first Baptiste yoga class at the Baptiste Institute in Cambridge, MA. A few months later, she became an assistant both in the studio and at bootcamps and trainings across the country. In 2002, Alice became a teacher at the studio until 2005 when she moved to Maine to open Portland Power Yoga with her husband Charles Terhune 2006. After selling the studio in 2013, Alice developed and led Yoga Alliance 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Trainings in Maine, as well as in DC. Since 2019, Alice has been co-leading certified Yoga Teacher Trainings in Iceland with Inga Magnusson, owner of Iceland Power Yoga.

Alice has taught and practiced Yin Yoga for 12 years. She has led Yin Yoga Level 1 and 2 teacher trainings at Grace & Glory studios since 2019. Currently, Alice teaches Power Yoga and Yin Yoga classes online at Ompractice.

Alice’s teaching style is inclusive, strong and compassionate. She believes in the power of the practice as a path to transformation, not just for anyone, but for everyone.
